Overview

This prompt asks students to relate a given text to a small moment from their own lives. 

Follow these steps to customize this narrative/personal task:
  1. Review the steps in the handout "Plan for Write to the Source."
  2. Review the sample task and then fill in the task template fields below the sample task. 
  3. Review the handout "Narrative Writing Rubric." Adapt as necessary.

Sample Task 

Essential Question: Why do some people stand up to prejudice and unfairness while others do not?

Text Title(s): Read "Freedom Riders."

Suggested Writing Product: Consider a small moment in your own life that you feel connects to the text. Work with a partner to compose a timeline stretching out the moment. Use the timeline to help you write your own personal narrative expressing your small moment. Write your narrative in first person. 

Additional Task Demand: Use details and descriptions to show how characters respond to certain situations.
